VATS Approach to Symptomatic Morgagni Hernia in Adults

1. Abstract

Congenital diaphragmatic hernias represent 8% of congenital malformations and are characterized by a defect in the diaphragm, creating communication between the abdominal and thoracic cavities. Morgagni hernia (MH) is a type of congenital anteromedial herniated diaphragmatic hernia and represents 2-4% of diaphragmatic hernias. It appears as a result of a defect in the development of the diaphragm between its costal and sternal origin with the separation between the transverse septum and the costal arches (sternocostal triangle), forming the foramen of Morgagni, of pathology and etiology still unknown.
